last three to five years, but
testing your UPS
every six months insures that your batteries will perform as
needed in the event of a power failure.
Keep in mind that devices aren't
designed to let you keep working for a long period of time. If
you are hit with a blackout, save your documents then shut down
your system in the normal manner, and then unplug everything.
When the power comes back on, there could be a spike capable of
overloading some components.
Additional tips to help
prolong the life of your batteries are; the temperature where a
UPS is kept should not exceed 78 degrees, and leave roughly one
to two inches on each side for proper airflow.
